Power Snatch Complex

Overview

This Power Snatch Complex, which combines Jumping Pulls and Power Snatches, provides value for early learners. Firstly, jumping pulls provide an opportunity to emphasise maintaining straight arms during the pull and to focus on this crucial skill early in learning the Power Snatch.  Secondly, jumping pulls help the learner explore the body’s upward movement at the finish of the pull, driven by powerful leg extension, which is another crucial element of technique.

Key Coaching Points

  1. Initiate both the Jumping Pull and the Power Snatch from Mid-Thigh with straight arms and a whole-body upward action.
  2. Try to imagine the bar moving in a vertical straight line to a position directly above the crown of your head.
  3. Pursue rapid movement under the bar as practised with the Rapid Drop-Down skill drill.
  4. Foot movement must be rapid, and feet must land flat in the Power Snatch from Knee.
  5. Ensure the bar is held still overhead while in the receiving position to develop balance, control, and confidence.
  6. In the receiving position, maintain a strong lockout by pushing the bar as high as possible above the head and extending the shoulders upwards.
