Jerk Receiving Position Drill

Overview

The key objective of this Jerk Receiving Position Drill is to develop the ability to brace the body in an upright position and equalise the weight distribution on the front and back foot.

Once learned, this skill drill can be instrumental in developing an understanding of how the body should feel in the Jerk receiving position with the rear knee well bent and the weight evenly distributed on the front and rear feet.

Warning: This skill drill is hard in the first incidence of learning. A weight plate can be placed under the mat to make the task easier to master.

Procedure

In the starting position with the back knee on a mat, the following elements of technique must be achieved:

  • Front shin must be vertical
  • Upper body must be vertical
  • The rear femur (upper back leg) must be close to vertical
  • Toes of back foot must be on theground as shown

Keeping the upper body vertical, and no change in the angle of the front shin, the rear knee is raised 20cm and the position held for 5 seconds. To succeed, the core of the body must be correctly braced.
